Steam and (some) sunshine at Apedale

With Christmas and Santa activities out of the way, they’re having a “Winter Warmer” event at Apedale - four locomotives in steam, alternating between passenger and freight movements up and down the line from Silverdale station to Apedale Road, along with the odd rake of rattling and rumbling wagons out onto the field railway. In steam today, in no particular order, are Stanhope (Kerr Stuart 2395 of 1917), Ogwen (Avonside 2066 of 1933), Woto (Bagnall 2133 of 1924) and O&K 5662 (of 1912) - complete with its dinky little tender. Plenty of variety! The weather was better than expected too - plenty of sunshine for the first hour or so - and dry. Eventually I’d seen a bit of

everything, and the cloud was thickening. A visit to the cafe in the heritage centre next door (oatcakes!) could be on the cards - and then I saw the queue. Perhaps not this time! A quick look in the bookshop and then it’s time to head for home Link: Apedale Valley Railway
