No sunshine, grey diesels and BR black loco: I’ll present this outing in b&w...It’s ex-GWR 0-6-2T 5619’s last day in steam before its 10-year overhaul - and it’s probably my last railway outing of 2025. I probably wouldn’t have bothered, but a good friend told me he’d be visiting - let’s make it a social event too!I arrived in time to see the day’s first train return to Spring Village platform - super-powered! Three locomotives for two coaches. The 37 would be coming off after this run, and today’s “Winter Warmer” service at the Telford Steam Railway would

continue with just the 08 at one end, and 5619 at t’other.We enjoyed a ride out to Lawley Village (my first trip along the extension) and back to Horsehay and Dawley station, then watched the train depart energetically back up the bank. Inevitably, we had moments for photos of 5619 before we were engulfed by the steam from under the bridge... Time now for a warming drink, before my firend had to set off homewards.
