60532 - back on the main line

Back on the main lines after more
than 20 years, 60532 Blue Peter has
very recently received a full overhaul
and the early BR blue livery. After
some test runs on the Severn Valley
Railway, today the locomotive
undertook its first loaded test run around the Crewe -
Chester - Shrewsbury - Wolverhampton - Crewe circuit.
After some thought, we decided to head for Oakengates
Geoff’s Rail Diaries
station - still an attractive and reasonably authentic
spot, even if the former station buildings now host a
dental surgery... After a few normal service trains, and 5
minutes early, 60532 made a gentle approach to the
station before opening up, making a fine sound until it
dived into Oakengates tunnel.
Realtime Trains later showed the train arriving at
Bushbury 20 minutes early, and by 15.35, the train was
back at its Crewe base, some 37 minutes ahead of
schedule. Test run? We assume it passed!
