Proper trains at Crewe...
7.27am
11 March 2025
We’ve just arrived on the sleeper from inverness. Should have been
here almost two hours ago, at 5.30am (for a drive home in the dark...).
A problem with the intended class 92 at Waverley meant a taxi ride for
the driver to Carstairs, to collect a replacement. We eventually pulled
away more than two hours late.
We must have regained some time, until we were slowed south of
Weaver Junction - I guessed we were behind a stopper, calling at Acton
Geoff’s Rail Diaries
Bridge, Hartford and Winsford. At 7.25am we pulled up at Crewe’s
platform 5. Two minutes later I’m on the platform, recording our train
in the glorious sunshine (and icy air...). I’m not sure what makes me
look around - there’s a TfW Cardiff - Manchester loco-hauled train
arriving. The timing is perfect - the sleeper is already on the move as
the Manchester train runs in beside platform 6. Two “proper” trains -
locomotives hauling carriages. Two different operators as well. A
colourful start to the day, and the year’s railway outings - and we’re
driving home in unexpected daylight!
