The Shropshire Railway Society was formed in 1969 to cater for all railway enthusiasts living in Shropshire or interested in its railways. The society holds regular meetings in Shrewsbury, covering a wide variety of railway subjects, presented by local and nationally acclaimed speakers.

The society organises a number of visits and excursions each year. Recent forays have covered such destinations as the East Lancs. Railway, the Great Central Railway, various national network locations, and the railways of the Irish republic.

Publications include a monthly newsletter, a book on local railways and a CD-ROM of the county's railways.
