It’s a showery morning, but the forecast promises clear skies for the afternoon - it could be good for the Severn Valley’s Santa trains...The forecast was right - the last drops of a shower fell as I arrived, and the clouds cleared to provide a beautifully lit lineside and backdrop. Ideally, everything would be smokebox-first going up the bank towards the tunnel; three out of five isn’t bad. Half the passing trains would of course be drifting down the bank. The trickiest bit about the Santa specials is working out what’s next...Little more needs to be said - it may be fun for the kids (and very lucrative for the railway), but for the enthusiast it’s a great spectacle.
