When I first visited this little railway in the Rhiw valley, between Welshpool and Newtown, it was rarely open to the public - perhaps once or twice a year. Still in private ownership, it’s now maintained and operated by a group of volunteers - and is open one weekend each month.
It’s a very pleasant ride around the fields beside the Rhiw - and there are drinks, cakes, cream scones etc. for those members of the party who don’t really want to wander around taking photos. In short (and it is short - about a mile...), it’s a great place to spend an  hour or two on a summer’s afternoon. Link: Rhiw Valley Light Railway
