There’s been a steam special up the Marches line in late
November for several years - this year it’s a “Christmas
Cheshireman” from Bristol, heading for the Chester Christmas
markets, and steam-hauled all the way by 70013 Oliver
Cromwell. Can we rely on the weather?
Today’s forecast wasn’t perfect (after yesterday’s wall-to-wall
sunshine) - yes, the sun will shine, but yes, there’ll be some
wintry showers. Happily, and accidentally, it all fell into
place. On time arriving at Hereford, for a scheduled water
stop, it was 28 minutes late leaving. If it had been on time,
there would have been some heavy cloud overhead. Running
twenty-five minutes late, it hurried past in glorious sunshine,
working hard and making a wonderful sight and sound.
